In Novi Pazar the project “Girls and women security friendly public areas” start

CSO Monitor from Novi Pazar, in cooperation with the association of citizens’ REAKT from Novi Pazar, with the support of UN Women within the project “Safety of women and girls in public space” supported by the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Belgrade, in the period from December 2022 to August 2023 implements the project entitled “Girls and women security friendly public areas”.

The overall objective of the project is to improve the condition and feelings of safety of girls and women on public areas in the area of the city of Novi Pazar. Based on the overall objective defined in this way, the specific objectives of the project are: 1) Identification and mapping of security risks and threats, i.e. the need to protect the security of girls and women in at least 5 public areas in the area of Novi Pazar; 2) Making recommendations for raising the level of protection of security of girls and women in at least 5 public areas in the area of Novi Pazar and leading an advocacy process with the local self-government and competent institutions in order to adopt and implement these recommendations; 3) Raising the awareness of citizens about security risks and threats, i.e. the need to protect the security of girls and women in public areas in the area of Novi Pazar.

Primary target group of this intervention, consist girls and women aged 10-60, who live in the area of ​​Novi Pazar and who use public areas where there is the highest turnover of people, such as the pedestrian zone, city park, recreation center, quay next to the Raška river, sports fields at the area of Dezevski road, etc. The research that will be conducted as part of this intervention will determine the perception of girls and women regarding security risks and threats in the mentioned areas. Based on the identification and mapping of the same, recommendations will be made for representatives of local self-government and other competent institutions regarding what should be done so that the effects of the identified and mapped security risks and threats are neutralized or reduced. Advocating for the adoption of these recommendations will benefit all girls and women who use these areas in a way that will make them feel significantly safer. Also, as the second target group of this intervention are decision-makers at the local level, who, based on an expert analysis of security problems and security needs of girls and women in public areas, will receive inputs for the creation of their strategic documents, action or operational plans regarding the security of this social group on public areas. The third target group is the citizens of Novi Pazar in general, who through the promotional campaign will be introduced to the specifics of the security problems and needs of the female population with a special focus on public areas in this city.
