Docent Aleksandar R. Ivanovic, President of the Association “Monitor” held a lecture on 28 May 2014, on the topic “Drugs and the youngs” at the Economic and Commerce High School “Paja Marganović” in Pančevo (Serbia). The lecture was intended for professors of this school, and its goal was to introduce a professor to the problems of drug abuse in young high school students. Professor Ivanovic first introduced the participants with the results of the research on the presence of drugs among secondary school students. Then, in the second part of his lecture, he highlighted factors that contribute to the emergence of drug addiction among young people in secondary school, the reasons why young people decide to try drugs, how the drug affects the organism, the process of developing addiction, consequences, and the like. The last part of the lecture was dedicated to the prevention of drug addiction, with an emphasis on what each of us can do individually on this plan and how the school can contribute to reducing drug use among young people. In the discussion that followed the lecture, various proposals for the drug prevention program were presented. Also, all participants agreed that young people, as well as their parents, despite the numerous possibilities of using the means of mass communication, are still not sufficiently informed about the drugs and the harmful effects of their consumption.
