In accordance with the principles of open government partnership at the local level, the 18-month project “Citizen-oriented decision-making in Novi Pazar” started with the implementation by the City of Novi Pazar and the MONITOR citizen association from Novi Pazar with the support of the United States Embassy in Serbia.

The aforementioned intervention should create a digital tool that provides the opportunity for all citizens, especially young people in Novi Pazar, to participate in an innovative and creative way in the decision-making process at the level of the local community of Novi Pazar, which is foreseen as one of the measures of the Action Plan for Open Government Partnership for the city of Novi Pazar in 2019. Namely, the aforementioned Action Plan envisages the development and promotion of the “My Novi Pazar” application. The application is a public platform for online communication between citizens and local self-government, which includes consultations regarding the creation of strategic, planning, program and action documents, submission of applications and citizen initiatives, as well as evaluation of the work of local self-government bodies.

The goal of this 18-month project is to create an online platform – the “My Novi Pazar” application, which will involve at least 1,000 young Novi Pazar residents aged 18-35 in the decision-making process at the local level. IT experts from the local community of Novi Pazar will be engaged in the development and creation of the “My Novi Pazar” platform – application.

Project activities include:

a) establishment of the online platform “My Novi Pazar” for Android and iOS for students and young professionals from Novi Pazar;

b) training of at least 700 students (18-25 years old) young leaders from the area of 26 local communities of Novi Pazar to use the platform – application “My Novi Pazar”;

c) training at least 300 young professionals (26-35 years old) engaged in civil society, the media or the academic community from Novi Pazar to use the platform – the “My Novi Pazar” application.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the Embassy of the United States of America in Serbia from the Small Grants Program of the Commission for Democracy, which finances specific projects that support democracy and the development of democratic institutions in the Republic of Serbia.
