Participation in the Coordination Meeting of Competent State Bodies and Civil Society Organizations in order to establish a mechanism for combating hate crimes in the Republic of Serbia

The Office for Human and Minority Rights, with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, organized a second this year Coordination Meeting of representatives of competent state bodies and civil society organizations in order to prevent hate crimes in the Republic of Serbia, on 15 December 2021, at hotel “Falkensteiner” in Belgrade.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Supreme Court of Cassation, the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, the Judicial Academy, the Office for Human and Minority Rights, and the representatives of civil society organizations that had previously played a significant role in the fight against hate crime.

As a civil society organization that implemented several important projects in this area, CSO Monitor take participation on this meeting. Monitor`s representative, Doc. dr Ergin Hakić presented the results of the project “Fight against discrimination and promotion of intercultural dialogue and trust building” which was implemented in partnership with the City of Novi Pazar, and with the financial support of the European Union and the Council of Europe, through the joint program “Promotion of Diversity and Equality in Serbia”. Also, colleague Hakić acquainted the attendees with the plans of the CSO MONITOR for the future, which are reflected in the organization of trainings in the field of legal writing skills and legal argumentation for young lawyers, with special focus on addressing discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes.

The purpose of the Coordination Meeting is to continue cooperation, to share experiences, and to explore the possibilities for establishing cooperation between the competent state authorities and civil society organizations in order to establish mechanisms for combating of the hate crimes in the Republic of Serbia.
