The “My Novi Pazar” app can be a very useful tool in facilitating easier access to information and improving communication between citizens and local authorities, in accordance with the principles of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance, it was concluded during the ninth consultative meeting with young leaders from the Novi Pazar local communities. The purpose of the meeting was to present the features of the app and discuss proposals for its improvement.
The legal framework regulating access to information of public importance in Serbia is the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance, which guarantees citizens the right to request and receive information held by public authorities, with certain exceptions. This law ensures transparency in the work of public institutions and guarantees the protection of citizens’ rights to obtain relevant information about the operations of public authorities.
According to the observations of the participants in the consultative meeting, the “My Novi Pazar” app can significantly contribute to the realization of citizens’ right to access public information through the following aspects:

Increasing Transparency – The app can provide easier access to information regarding the work of local authorities, decisions made, budgets, public tenders, and other acts of interest to citizens.

Quick Access to Information – Through the app, citizens can quickly and easily access information related to their city and submit requests for information of public importance.

Simplified Information Request Process – The app can provide a platform for online submission of information access requests, reducing bureaucratic barriers and speeding up the process.

Interactivity and Feedback – Citizens can use the app to ask questions, receive answers, and even get notifications about the status of their requests.

Raising Awareness about Citizens’ Rights – The app can also include educational materials about the right to access information, helping citizens better understand their rights and how to exercise them.
The conclusion is that the “My Novi Pazar” app is potentially a very useful tool for enabling easier access to information and improving communication between citizens and local authorities, in line with the principles of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance.
